On Thursday, July 19, 2012, I went to Tumblr. And it was awesome.

Let’s start at the beginning: Tumblr has a Fashion Evangelist and his name is Valentine Uhovski. I have seen is work and admire what he was doing for the community and wanted to meet him. After I found his correct e-mail, I shot him a message and from there we pick the above date.

So, on that day, I woke up at 4:30am to get ready, board the Metro (the subway of Washington, D.C.) and get on a 6:30am bus to Manhattan. I have taken this bus all the time for fashion week, showroom visits, and just to go to the city. I was there by 11 and had lunch with Freddy. We talked about his current internship at Vogue and about FIT, where I will be attending in the Fall.

I let a little too much time go by because before I know it I said bye to Freddy and hopped into a cab to make my 2pm for my meeting.

It was upon entering that I met Jeri. She was so kind and I talked her ear off (sorry!). Ladies and gentlemen let me say this: there is no place like Tumblr HQ. Everyone is nice, kind, and welcoming. While chatting with Jeri, a few Tumblr staff members were just finishing up their game of ping-pong.

Valentine then arrived and we headed up to the 9th floor. Valentine had to work on something super quick and I was able to look around the office and see Tommy! I wish I had taken a picture of him. Seeing him in person was just surreal. I’m not even sure if that is a real dog. He is just too perfect!

Back down to the 6th floor so we could chat some more. I ran out of questions actually midway through and was completely nervous (I accidentally cut Valentine off once or twice. Oops!) even though I didn’t need to be. Valentine told me a ton of great things and here are my favorites:

  • Don’t do it for the notes. Blog what you like and would want to see.
  • Tag your stuff! Tumblr is a community of creators and to find fellow creators of the things you like make sure to tag properly!
  • FashGif is a pretty cool blog.
  • Be true to what you love.

Then our time came to an end and I gave Valentine two oversized gummy bears! Right before we left in walked David. I was star-struck. We shook hands and then he had to go. Next time I have to take more pictures!

Thank you Tumblr for having an amazing, accepting community and I look forward to doing more with the #Fashion and #NYFW community.

My Tumblr adventure so far:

I joined Tumblr late in the game and didn’t fully understand it at first. If only I did.

I would only upload some of my fashion “things” every now and again. Then, I saw that Tumblr was sending some bloggers to Fashion Week and I wanted that. I started getting better at Tumblr (or tumblr-ing). My life has completed changed thanks to the easy to use layout and way I can interact with everyone from around the globe by simply hash-tagging my posts.

It all started with a logo and a simple idea: bring Tumblr users into my life of fashion. Now, I am moving to New York to attend FIT in the Fall and will be in the Fashion Capitol of the World. Thank you Tumblr for allowing me to express myself.

These photos are just a few of the many highlights of my journey thus far.

  • Main - My logo
  • 1 - Project Runway Season 9 Finale Show. My second year attending.
  • The accessories closet at the Elie Tahari corporate showroom.
  • At Christian Siriano’s DC runway show.
  • Katya Lenovich SS11.
  • Amazing encouragement from Glenda Bailey.
  • Becoming a Tumblr #NYFW editor
  • With Tim Gunn. I interviewed him when I was 15 for my blog. We have been friends since.
  • Herve Leger by Max Azria FW12.
  • Visiting Teen Vogue for the second time.

Many more to come…
